USPA NEWS - The Long Lake wildfires complex is currently holding at an estimated 8468 hectares, with no new reports of damage. Re-entry for 17 more residences outside the active wildfire zone is permitted today. Dry conditions will continue to prevail for the remainder of the week.
Firefighters leveraged drones fitted with infrared cameras to inspect the northern portion of the fire. This technology enables the detection of hot spots and the strategic direction of firefighting operations. Crews are tackling these areas. The aim is to duplicate this practice in other areas of the fire when feasible.
Resources currently available include 5 helicopters, 4 planes and a bird dog, 2 pieces of heavy equipment and 7 water tankers. The site has 50 DNR firefighters, 20 from Quebec, a new crew of 19 Parks Canada firefighters, plus support staff.
EARTHQUAKES IN LUNENBURG COUNTY: Earthquakes Canada reported two minor earthquake events in Lunenburg County within sixty hours. The first earthquake, measuring 2.0 in magnitude, occurred near Parkdale at 3:30 AM on September 14. The second, measuring 1.9 magnitude, was reported near Italy Cross shortly after 5:00 AM on September 15.
No damage has been reported; nonetheless, numerous residents reported feeling tremors, "shaken houses" and hearing a loud bang yesterday morning.
